By writing down every purchase, both big and small, you will be able to see exactly where your money is going. Yes, even if you buy a pack of gum at Walmart for only $.97! It is the tiny purchases in particular that will add up. You may then be left wondering where did that $50 go? Write down your spending or invest in a program such as Quicken that allows you to track where your money goes. You will be amazed at how much you really do spend. You can then take that information and make adjustments where it’s needed. For example, you may spend $5 a day filling up on a Venti (aka “large”) double mocha espresso with vanilla soy milk at your local Starbucks. Well, you can see how that adds up (assuming you go every week day) to $25 a week just for your morning coffee! Believe me, when you can see what you are spending, you will be more apt to saving.
